Wario Land 3 (AKA Wario Land 3: Fushigi na Orugōru – ワリオランド3 不思議なオルゴ～ル in Japan) is a beautiful 2D platform video game developed and published by Nintendo for the Game Boy Color handheld console in year 2000. This game is the last game of the Wario Land series, which stared with Super Mario Land 3: Wario Land.
Wario Land 2 for the GBC was a cool platformer game that focused more on the exploratory aspect of the platform game than the run of the mill Mario titles. Wario Land 3 is no exception, and this later entry improves on many of the things that made its predecessor such a unique and fun game.
Wario’s story begins when he arrives at a jungle area and enters a cave that contains what looks like a cross between a music box and a snow globe. This curious curio begins to suck Wario in, and inside, he meets an ominous looking face that tells him that he must acquire five music boxes to help him rule the snow globe, else Wario never sees the light of actual day ever again. That, and he’s promised riches so of course, Wario agrees.
Wario Land 3 Cover (GBC)Much of what made up the previous game is still intact. Wario is still the indestructible machine that he was in the previous instalment. Here, he can be ballooned, turned into ash, made morbidly obese, invisible, and so much more. All of these figure transformations still serve the same role of letting Wario solve level design puzzles in order to move on.

The non-linear approach to each level design is a fresh approach to Nintendo’s usual just move to the right side of the screen approach. The game forces players to move forward, backward, up and down. It requires a certain degree of spatial awareness and memory to know where to go.
The only real improvement in Wario Land 3 in terms of graphics is the game’s color. Wario is now rendered in wonderful color, thanks to advances in the Game Boy Color.

Wario delivers humor by abusing Wario’s alleged cruelty. To illustrate, Wario plays golf by kicking an evil minion instead of using a ball. It’s exactly this kind of “look at me I’m so evil” sort of black comedy that makes this title so different and fresh from most Nintendo games, which tend to keep things as sugary sweet and wholesome as possible.
