Hi, Can someone point the web links to download the ISO CD Image files for Solaris 8 installation on intel machines. I downloaded the 'sol-8-10_00-install-fcs-bin-ia-ml' such files and they don't. Oct 16, 2001 - Creating a bootable CD from solaris 8 iso file. Created from the sol-8-u5-install-sparc.iso file downloaded from Sun bootable using either Nero. I have downloaded the Installation.zip file from Sun's site for Solaris 8 02/04 Release for Sparc Unzipped the downloaded file to create.iso image file. When I type in 'boot cdrom' at OK prompt on SunSparc, it comes back with a message.
Im new to Solaris and am just about to install Solaris 9 on an old Sparc based machine with Solaris 8.
My friend gave me the ISOs for V9, and now, i have them sitting on my Vista, and i have to start writing bootable CDs of the same. But Im not quite sure how to go about doing the same.
The files that i have are Solaris_9_Sparc.iso and solaris_9_Sparc_2.iso, which seem to be part 1 and part 2 on the installation aspect of it. There is another iso, MULTI_ICD_SOL_SPARC_cs.iso, 128 KB , which has the following files on it.. ADD_INSTALL_CLIENT., BOOT., MODIFY_INSTALL_SERVER., COPYRIGHT., RM_INSTALL_CLIENT., _VOLUME.inf
Now i tried burning the CDs the conventional way(3, one for each ISO) using PowerISO, Disk Creator and MagicISO, and tried to give a 'boot cdrom' and it says something of the order of
'The CD loaded does not appear to be executable'
Is there something I'm missing here?
Alternatively I would be really grateful if someone points out to me exactly how to burn installation disks from ISOs.

I'm trying to boot Solaris 10 or Solaris 11 for SPARC using qemu-system-sparc64 but keep running into problems early on. I'm using the DVD images sol-10-u11-ga-sparc-dvd.iso and sol-11_2-text-sparc.iso available from SUN's^WOracle's web site.

I have tried using the -cpu help option to find a supported CPU, but no matter what string I provide, it is not understood.
Has anyone gotten original Solaris 10 or 11 to boot with sparc64 under QEMU?What else should I try?
PS: It is not an option to buy SPARC hardware or emulate 32bit SPARC and ancient Solaris 9 or older or use Solaris x86.

Have been searching for this myself a while ago but unfortunately I did not succeed in starting Solaris 10 (or 11) using QEMU with sparc64. I stopped trying after I read the page http://wiki.qemu.org/download/qemu-doc.html#QEMU-System-emulator-for-non-PC-targets section 4.3 which states that the emulator is not usable but may boot some kernels.

Qemu-system-sparc64 will boot and run successfully only old versions of Solaris(7< 7 not included) and with custom bios(taken from old Sparc workstations).Of course you can try maybe with next releases versions like Solaris 8 or 9Remind that the kvm module is only for x86 architecture,so Sparc emulation will be really slow.This is a good how-to to see.
